Monroe Girl's Report Area girls earn playoff bids, begin march toward Top 28The Top 28 for girls is moving back to Monroe this March and with the high school playoff brackets revealed Tuesday, the area is well represented in the postseason. More than half the teams from local districts found a spot in the 32-team playoff bracket in all seven classes with seeding as high as a No. 2 seed with Carroll in Class 4A and Oak Grove in Class 1A. “Throughout district, we’ve had a good amount of team play,” Carroll coach Sheryl Madison said. “Our district was pretty tough, but the girls were consistent and our goal was to win a district championship.” www.thenewsstar.com/article/20090218/SPORTS/90217033/1006

I'm pulling for the Lady Bulldogs of Jennings in 3A. They are #1 ranked, are the #1 seed and have a 31-3 record. Their three losses have been to 5A's #1 seed Chapelle (they beat them at Teurlings but loss to them at Sulphur), 4A's #2 seed Carroll and Class B's #1 seed Fairview.

You better watch out for Capitol and Redemptorist from BR. Both are very good. Jennings is talented as well but Capitol could just have too many athletes for them and are led by Dominique Robinson who may be the best Sr. guard in the state.

According to a friend who was at the game tonight:
Jennings 82 J.S. Clark 17
He's usually off a little bit on scores but this was an easy win as the Lady Dogs jumped out to a 44 - 4 halftime lead.

Jennings 58 Iota 55
I didnt have time to post more than the score earlier but since I've made it home I wanted to say that the officials for this game called an absolute one-sided affair. To say Jennings was the home team you'd swear the game was being played in Iota. They gave Iota every call they could but Jennings was a little too athletic for them towards the end and pulled it out.
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to make it seem like Iota doesnt have a good team but they were definitely aided by the officials tonight. That coupled with Jennings' leading scorer only scoring 1 point tonight (a free throw with 1.5 seconds left) made for a tight game.
