Two teams from Central Louisiana are seeded No. 1 in their respective classifications after brackets were announced Tuesday for the LHSAA girls basketball playoffs.
Block of Jonesville is seeded first in Class 1A and will host No. 32 Varnado in an opening-round contest Thursday, and Fairview of Allen Parish is seeded No. 1 in Class B and will host No. 32 Centerville the same night. Block was ranked second in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Class A poll behind Southern Lab (No. 4 seed).
Block earned a No. 1 seed in the Class A playoffs in 2005, but the Lady Bears found out a day after the pairings were announced they were ineligible for the playoffs because the school discovered it had an ineligible player for part of the season, requiring the Lady Bears to forfeit seven games.
